States like Haryana, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh stand out among those offering handsome cash incentives to medal winners belonging to their states.
Speaking to The Goan Everyday, International woman footballer Michelle Castana who is the only Goan who represented the country was disappointed with the Rs 2 lakh SAG reward given on National Sports Day.
"I am a gold medalist for SAFF and SAG Games. Getting only Rs 2 lakh is disappointing to me and my family," said the Curtorim-born footballer.
These initiatives do add up in motivating the present and future generation of performers to train harder, to achieve greater heights.
When asked about AFC Women's Championship at Tashkent, Uzbekistan she said the suspension has left the team devastated. "I am happy that the ban has been lifted but it is heartbreaking that my team Gokulam Kerala Women FC could not play. Our hard work has gone to waste," Castana concluded.
