Chowgule Sports Club emerged champions in the first edition of the All Goa Chandrakant Karapurkar Trophy cricket tournament organised by Margao Cricket Academy by defeating Cricket Club of Altinho (CCA) by 44 runs.
In the final, Chowgule won the toss and elected to bat first to post 223/2 in 20 overs. Rajat Shet (114*) and Shubham Gajinkar (90) were the main scorers while Rupesh Ajgaokar (1/42) and Yogesh Barde (1/25) bowled well for CCA.
Chasing a stiff target, CCA could only manage to score 179/8 in their reply, handing Chowgule a 44-run win. Gaurang Dhuri (51), Rajan Dhamshekar (23) and Utkarsh Pokle (23) played good hands but were not able to take their team over the line. Sharad Khandolkar picked 3/17 while Rajat Shet, Dheeraj Yadav, Ashok Rathod and Rohit Naik claimed a wicket each for Chowgule.
Rohan Desai, honorary secretary of Goa Cricket Association (GCA), was the chief guest while Daya Pagui, honorary treasurer of GCA, and Shashidhar, senior engineer, Konkan Railway Corporation, were the guests of honour. Bhai Naik, president of Sportsweek CC and Ravindra Nevagi, joint-secretary of Margao Cricket Academy along with Chirag Naik of Commonwealth Developers were the other dignitaries present. Rajat Shet was named the Man of the series and Shubham Gajinkar was the Man of the finals. The tournament was played on the Konkan Railway ground, Margao.
