St Francis Xavier High School, Bhatpal, emerged victorious in the Canacona Taluka Inter-School Handball Championship, defeating St Anne's Institute, Agonda, by a narrow 6-5 scoreline in a thrilling final. The tournament was organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA).
The match was a nail-biter, with the decisive moment coming in the dying seconds of the game. Abdul Samad scored the winning goal with just 50 seconds left on the clock, securing the championship for St Francis Xavier High School.
In the semifinals, St Francis Xavier had to battle through a penalty shootout to defeat Government High School, Gaval Khol, 3-2, to reach the final.
The final saw a stellar performance from Shrinish Shrinivas Reddy, who scored a hat-trick for his team. Abdul Samad contributed with two goals, while Nikeel Savio Ferrao added one to the scoreline. The team was coached by the school's PE teacher, Nehal Komarpant.
