All the priests working in the Diocese of Goa came together to exhibit their passion and love for the game of football as the first-ever futsal tournament was organised for priests.
Despite Sunday schedule of mass and other pastoral commitments, 106 priests of Goa Religious & Diocesan participated in the Priests Futsal League Tournament, organised by the Diocesan Priests, Frs Franky, Doel and Milagres at Bulls Arena Futsal ground, Nagoa.
Eight teams participated in the tournament and it was played on a league basis; each team had to play 4 matches and the top two teams qualified for the semifinals. The first semifinal was played between Capuchins led by Fr Jose and Young Shepherd led by Fr Juze MSFS. In the second semifinal, Pillar Society clashed against Cardinal Voice.
Cardinal Voice lead by Fr George Dias and Young Shepherd by Fr. Juze MSFS made it to the finals. From the very start, Young Shepherd began their attacking play through Fr Mario and Synter. The goalkeeper of Cardinal Voice, Fr Myron was tested frequently. Young Shepherd took the lead through a penalty corner which was converted by Fr Mario. Cardinal players, forward Frs Valentino, Benson tried their best but the formandible defence of Young Shepherd, Frs Joveir and Christopher could not be breached. In the second half, Young Shepherd doubled the lead before adding a third goal. Fr Synter and Joveur scored a goal each.
