Ambelim SC came from behind to defeat United Club Benaulim 2-1 in a thrilling match of the 35th Super Soccer Tournament organised by United Boys of Dando Colva at the St John the Baptist Panchayat Ground, Dando, on Thursday.
United Club Benaulim made an impressive start with their youthful side, dominating the early exchanges through the midfield pairing of Klyne and Maxwell. Their bright opening was rewarded in the 12th minute when Keegan Fernandes finished off a well-worked move to give Benaulim the lead.
Ambelim gradually settled into the contest and began creating openings down the flanks. Their persistence paid off just before half-time when Jeniton D'Silva capitalised on a defensive lapse to restore parity.
The equaliser lifted Ambelim, who carried the momentum into the second half. Blesco Fernandes was influential on the wings, stretching the Benaulim defence with his runs, before Lloyd completed the comeback with a composed finish in the 45th minute.
Benaulim responded strongly and pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, creating several scoring opportunities. However, poor finishing proved costly as they failed to convert their chances, while Ambelim's defence held firm to secure all three points.
Blesco Fernandes of Ambelim SC was named man of the match. The award was presented by Baptisto Vaz.
