MARGAO: Fr Agnel Paroda booked their place in the quarterfinals of the 27th All Goa Our Lady of Merces Inter-Village Football Tournament with a convincing 3-1 victory over Cuncolim Union. After a goalless first half, Paroda broke the deadlock in the 34th minute when Rayan Menezes converted a penalty after Aaron Fernandes handled the ball inside the box. Steve Menezes then struck twice in quick succession, scoring in the 37th and 44th minutes to put Paroda firmly in control. Daulat Dessai pulled one back for Cuncolim Union in the 55th minute, but it proved only a consolation as Paroda sealed a comfortable win. Fr Agnel Paroda will face Arlem Youth Association, Raia, in the quarterfinals.
Verna rally past Maina to enter final
MARGAO: United Club of Verna came from behind to defeat Maina SC Curtorim 3-1 and book their place in the final of the 35th Super Soccer Tournament organised by United Boys of Dando Colva at the St John the Baptist Dando Panchayat Ground, Benaulim. Maina took an early lead through Milagres Fernandes in the fourth minute, but Verna equalised in the 15th minute when Meldon Moniz found the target. Verna dominated the second half, with Arfan Sayyed putting his side ahead in the 42nd minute before Beniton Barretto sealed the victory in stoppage time. Arfan Sayyed was named Man of the Match and received the award from former national footballer Alfred Fernandes.
Anil Kamat Memorial Football from July 31
MARGAO: CRC Chinchinim will host the second Anil Kamat Memorial Football Tournament, which gets underway on July 31, with the final scheduled for August 23. Organised by Enfermos Sports Club, Sinquetim, the tournament honours late Goan football administrator Anil Kamat, who served the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for nearly 25 years as Assistant General Secretary and Director of Competitions before passing away in June 2024. A former official of CRC Chinchinim, Salcete Football Club and the Goa Football Association, Kamat was regarded as one of Indian football's foremost experts in competition management. A total of 11 teams from across Goa will compete in the tournament. The Church Ground at Chinchinim will host eight league matches, a quarter-final, both semi-finals and the final, making it one of the principal venues for the competition.
Santa Cruz in Curtorim Veterans Cup final
MARGAO: Santa Cruz Veterans defeated Curtorim Veterans 4-0 to storm into the final of the Curtorim Veterans Cup 2026 at St Alex Church Ground, Curtorim, on Thursday. Alexander opened the scoring in the 12th minute before Eddie doubled the lead in the 30th minute. Benedict added the third in the 55th minute, while Presley completed the rout three minutes later. Eddie was adjudged Man of the Match and received the award from Jaison Luis. Santa Cruz Veterans will meet Quepem Veterans in Sunday's final.
DBO blank Calangute to reach quarters
MARGAO: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, defeated Calangute Association 3-0 to enter the quarterfinals of the fifth Betalbatim Villagers Cup 2026 at the Panchayat Ground, Betalbatim, on Thursday. Hanshlum Furtado, Jef Barreto and Velito Miranda scored a goal each as Don Bosco Oratory dominated the contest. Jef Barreto was named Man of the Match and received the award from Joe Cota, president of the Betalbatim Farmers Association.
Father-son duo impress at national shotgun meet
MARGAO: Goa's father-son duo, Amit Budhraj and Ayaan Budhraj, put up commendable performances at the Raja Randhir Singh Memorial Shotgun Cup held in Patiala, Punjab. Competing in the double trap event at the National Rifle Association of India tournament, Amit finished ninth in the senior men's category, while Ayaan secured 13th place in the youth men's category. Both shooters train at Yash Shooting Hub, Pernem, under coach Prasenjit Parsekar.
