The tournament theme is ‘Chess for mental prowess' and is being sponsored entirely by the Fomento Group of Companies. The event is recognised by Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association and is being held in collaboration with the Goa State Chess Association and the All India Chess Federation.
Deputy Mayor, Lata Parekh will inaugurate the tournament on Sept 6 at 10am while Goa's chess sensation and WGM Bhakti Kulkarni has been named as the Icon of the tournament. The closing and prize distribution ceremony will be held on Sept 10 at 12.30pm. According to the organisers, the total prize money at stake is Rs 2 lakh and all the prize winners will be handed over certificates and trophies. In all, 11 prizes plus consolation prizes will be awarded in Open category. Special category prizes will be given away to the Goan players - five each for boys and girls. Any rated and unrated players are eligible for participation. The tournament will be played as per the norms of Chess Federation and will comprise of nine rounds.
