Title aspirants Ambelim Sports Club pumped in three goals past Cuncolim Warriors as they kicked off their GFA Vedanta Women League 2018-19 in impressive fashion at Government Village School ground, Ambelim on Monday. The highlight of the match was a brilliat brace by striker Anline Fernandes.
Right through the match, backed by a home crowd, Ambelim Sports Club held the upper hand. In the 12th minute Anline Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snapshot to break the deadlock. Spurred by the success, Ambelim Sports Club upped the ante and came up with some good attacking moves. Anline who was in thick action struck again off an Arpita Pednekar pass few
minutes later.
Dealt by the double blow, Cuncolim Warriors regrouped quickly and took the fight to the rival camp. Cuncolim’s Mabel Fernandes had a chance with a one-on-one with Ambelim Sports Club goalkeeper, Mayflower, but her shot went off target. She squandered another chance with only the rival goalkeeper at her mercy but she shot wide much to the dismay of the Cuncolim Warriors supporters.
Post resumption, Cuncolim Warriors tried their best to come back into the match and launched a flurry of attacks. Ambelim Sports Club defender Cynthia Lobo was stubborn at the back and frustrated the rival attackers with neat tackles. Cuncolim Warriors had a chance to reduce the deficit but Ageema Rebello frittered away the opportunity
from close.
After a flurry of misses, Ambelim Sports Club got their third goal when Arpita Pednekar bulged the net in the 52nd minute. Anline Fernandes of Ambelim Sports Club, who was instrumental in their win, was adjudged as the player of the match.
