MARGAO: Ambelim SC secured a 2-0 victory over Betalbatim SC to advance to the quarterfinals of the 43rd Gold Silver Rolling Trophy Inter-Village Football Tournament, organized by Navelim Sporting Club, at the Rosary Church Ground in Navelim on Friday.
The breakthrough came in the 29th minute when Nial Cardozo executed a clever diagonal shot that found the back of the net after evading several Betalbatim defenders.
Betalbatim nearly equalised in the 36th minute, but a shot from Zeben Dias was expertly saved by Ambelim goalkeeper. Dylan Rodrigues also came close, hitting the post in the 40th minute.
In the second half, Velroy Rebello capitalised on a mistake by the Betalbatim goalkeeper, seizing the ball and firing it into the net in the 46th minute to double Ambelim's lead. Aniston Fernandes narrowly missed another chance just before the final whistle.
