MARGAO: Navelim Sporting got the better of Canacona Sports and Cultural Club in a thrilling tie-breaker, winning 5-3 to secure a spot in the semifinals of the 45th St. Joseph Festival Football Tournament, organised by Dramapur SC at the Dramapur ground on Friday.
Navelim took an early lead in the 20th minute with a goal from Noah Luis. However, Canacona quickly equalized in the 30th minute through Chaitan Komarpant. They then surged ahead, making it 2-1 in the 39th minute with a goal from Ronaldo Oliveira.
Navelim responded with resilience, leveling the score at 2-2 in the 58th minute thanks to a penalty kick converted by Ronaldo Pereira.
In the tie-breaker, Navelim converted all three of their attempts, with goals from Noah Luis, Nevin Pereira, and Sedroy Costa. For Canacona, only Chaitan Komarpant found the net.
