A cricket net practice pitch constructed near the Assolda Village Panchayat with funds from the South Goa Zilla Panchayat was inaugurated by Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral in the presence of Zilla Panchayat Chairperson Siddharth Gauns Dessai and local residents.
The facility has been developed in response to demands from local youth, with the aim of promoting cricket and providing aspiring players with better opportunities to hone their skills.
Speaking at the inauguration, Cabral proposed the construction of a well-equipped gymnasium near the sports ground, subject to the temple committee making a small portion of land available. He suggested that the gymnasium could be named after the temple and said efforts would also be made to generate income for the temple.
Cabral urged the local panchayat to initiate discussions with the temple committee to explore the proposal. He assured full support for the effective utilisation of the new cricket practice facility and expressed hope that it would help nurture cricketing talent in the village. He also called upon senior players to guide and mentor young sportspersons and congratulated Gauns Dessai on taking the initiative.
Gauns Dessai said he considered it his responsibility to address the developmental needs of the area and fulfil the demands of local youth. He stressed that public participation and a sense of ownership were essential for maintaining facilities developed with government funds, adding that such an approach would encourage further development.
Assolda Sarpanch Custodio Fernandes praised Gauns Dessai for undertaking development works after understanding the needs of the people. He said several more projects were in the pipeline and expressed confidence that Gauns Dessai had lived up to the trust placed in him by the public. He assured continued support for future development initiatives.
