Calangute Association and Churchill Brothers Sports Club played out a goalless draw in the ninth round match of the Goa Professional League (GPL) at Duler Stadium, here on Saturday.

In the first half both the teams tried hard to score. The game started off with a series of counter-attacks. In the 17th minute, Richard Costa’s header off a corner-kick gave early scare to Calangute Association. In the 34th minute, Churchill Bros' Seriton Fernandes attempted to open the score off a cross from his fellow teammate but Jason D’Mello, Calangute Association's goalkeeper got down to stop the shot. In the 41st minute, Calangute Association made a shuffle in the line-up by pulling out Assumption Soares and sending in Rajat Chopdekar.

Post resumption, Calangute Association made a substitution by replacing Latesh Mandrekar with Yogesh Kadam. In the 53rd minute, Richard D’Costa's shot sailed wide above the Calangute Association's crossbar. Ten minutes later, Calangute Association’s Felix Odili crossed the ball to Yogesh who drove the ball six inches wide of the goalpost. In the 67th minute, it was once again some brilliant goalkeeping by Jason who made a double save.

In the 71st minute, came along some more disappointment for Calangute Association fans when Felix Odili’s powerful shot hit the rival goalpost and flew wide. The very next minute, Calangute Association missed another brilliant chance when Felix fed Sachin Gawas but he failed to convert.

The match ended in a goalless draw as Calangute Association’s forwards failed to convert during several chances that came their way, whereas Churchill Brothers managed to hold them due to superb defensive stand they put up.
