MARGAO: Canacona SCC stormed into the quarterfinals of the 5th Betalbatim Villagers Cup with a commanding 4-1 victory over Fr Agnelo SCC at the Betalbatim Panchayat Ground on Wednesday.
Organised by Betalbatim Sporting Club, the match saw Canacona make a flying start as Ronaldo Oliveira opened the scoring in the second minute. Velvino Fernandes doubled the lead in the 18th minute to put his side firmly in control.
Fr Agnelo had an opportunity to pull one back before the interval, but Alister's effort was turned away by the Canacona goalkeeper, ensuring his team carried a comfortable 2-0 advantage into the break.
Canacona continued to dominate after the restart, though Fr Agnelo briefly threatened a comeback when Fedrich Fernandes reduced the deficit in the 33rd minute. However, Chaitan Kamorpant restored Canacona's two-goal cushion five minutes later before Ronaldo Oliveira completed his brace with the fourth goal in the 46th minute to seal an emphatic victory.
Ronaldo Oliveira was named Man of the Match for his match-winning performance. The award was presented by Chennaiyin FC head coach Clifford Miranda.
