On the occasion of the inauguration of the Chandor Club House Complex to be held on February 7, it is with a justifiable pride to commemorate the events responsible for the organisation which evolved on February 9, 1964 which has now been established in the village of Chandor, having a chequered past.
Jose Fernando Gomes Coutinho, who held the post of the President of Chandor Club for 14 years and his wife Juliana Pinto Coutinho generously donated 2335 sq-meters of land at Igorjebhat to the Club in 1995.
A year later, the foundation stone for the club premises was laid and the work commenced in April 2000. Finance was a setback to further progress, but the members unitedly faced all odds and toiled with a selfless zeal to combat the challenges.
The wheel of activities rotated each year with the annual Seamen’s Trophy commencing on August 15, talent concert held on January 1, Christmas Tree Programme for members’ children on December 19 , sports for children on December 25 and the club football team participating in various inter-village football tournaments in the State, winning several trophies including the Seamen’s Trophy in 1994.
Today, Chandor Club House Complex, spearheaded by the President Domnick Mendes and the Managing Committee, having 19 members, has been glorified with an auditorium, gaming rooms, gymnasium, a badminton court and a swimming pool. The club boasts of a membership of more than 450 members.
The future of Chandor Club House Complex is puffed with a vast array of ambitious programmes and it looks ahead with confidence in the task of maintaining the traditions of unstinted service and planning with foresight.
