Substitute midfielder Vinil Poojary’s hat-trick helped Churchill Brothers FC outclass Corps of Signals 5-0 in a GFA Professional league game at Rosary Ground, Navelim on Saturday. The red machines led 2-0 at half time.
Churchill Brothers FC started the match with a lot of purpose and unlocked the Military defence within three minutes on the clock. Under-20 Wendel Savio Coelho from the flanks floated the ball inside the rival penalty area and Trinidad and Tobago striker, Willis Plaza’s header hit the post and entered into the nets leaving the Corps of Signals goalkeeper, Vikramjit Singh
dazed. Few minutes later, Churchill Brothers FC doubled the lead after a rival defender tripped Quan Gomes from behind and referee Shaikh Abbo without any hesitation awarded the spot kick. Lalkhawpuimawia made no mistake in sending the rival goalkkeper the wrong way.
Shortly afterwards, Corps of Signals suffered a blow when goalkeeper Vikramjit Singh got injured and was replaced by Binu Purushothman. The two-goal cushion helped Churchill Brothers’ midfield dominate the proceedings. The Varca-based outfit had a chance when Wilis Plaza missed out from close range after Wendel Coelho fed him a delivery on the platter. At the other end, Corps of Signals were at the receiving end and hardly troubled the rival goalkeeper. Churchill Brothers continued to get more opportunities. Plaza’s smart header hit the post and the rebound went to striker Lalkhawpuimawia, whose ensuing shot was well blocked by Coprs of Signals goalkeeper Binu Purshtoman.
Post resumption, Red Machines continued to call the shots.
In the 51st minute, Vinil Poojary, who was on song, added his name on the scorer’s list when he slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snapshot. Minutes later, Corps of Signals midfielder Shuklab Bordoli brought down opposition striker Lalkhawpuimawia inside the rival penalty box. Stepping up to the dreaded spot, Poojary slotted the blal home to give Churchill Brothers’ their fourth goal.
In the 63rd minute, Vinil Poojary completed his hat-trick after Quan Gomes sent him a through pass. Against the run of play, Corps of Signals almost reduced the margin when Lairelapam Nokul Singh capped on the rival defence lapse as Churchiil Brothers goalkeeper came to a one-to-one situation only for the attacker’s attempt to go wide.
