Churchill Brothers FC secured a narrow 1-0 win over Sesa Football Academy in the Goa Football Association Selvel Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Monday. Trijoy Dias scored the lone goal of the game in the 40th minute.
Churchill Bros made two changes as Trijoy Dias and Franky Oliveiro started while Sesa FA made just one change in the side. Sapam Singh started in goal. The play was restricted to midfield in the initial stages but Sesa were denied in the 16th minute when Omkar Arondekar tried his luck but his effort was blocked by defender Kidron Fernandes.
At the other end, Churchill made an attempt to get ahead in the game when Yagya Kapoor curled in a cross in the box to Myron Mendes, but his header was blocked by Sesa defender Suraj Singh. The Red Machines finally broke the deadlock in the 40th minute when Yagya sent a cross to Trijoy in the box, who timed his run and directed his header into the goal.
In the second half, Sesa had a chance to restore parity from a corner. Vishnu Gosavi’s delivery found Cajetan, but his header went out for a goal kick. Sesa squandered another chance, and this time it was Cajetan who sent a cross to Vishnu, and the latter headed wide.
Meanwhile, Sesa defended well to guard their goal as Myrna denied Jobern Cardozo from scoring. There was drama in the 84th minute as Churchill Brothers and Sesa FA saw their players being sent off. Churchill’s Asif and Sesa’s Vishnu got physical after the former tackled him and a scuffle broke out. The referee flashed straight red to both the players.
Sesa FA keeper Sapam made a fine save late in the game to deny Churchill Bros their second.
