Cross Road Boys A of 4th ward Colva beat Cross Road Boys B 6-4 via the tiebreaker to emerge champions of Late Crizostimo Rodrigues Trophy inter ward football tournament organised by Fishermen Boys of Colva at Colva ground.
In an absorbing encounter, both the teams adopted aggressive approach and kept the crowds on their toes. There was no score at half time. The second session turned livelier as both the teams showed urgency and there were thrills at either end.
Keith Rodrigues of Cross Road Boys A drew the first blood in the 47th minute and, within two minutes, Francis Pauskar made it 2-0. However, Cross Road Boys B scored two goals through Jesus Cardozo in the 49th and 50th minutes to equalise. In the ensuing penalty shootout , Cross Road Boys A proved to be better shooters.
Cross Road Boys A were richer by Rs 30,000 while Cross Road Boys B bagged Rs 20,000 plus trophies. Earlier, Jose Fernandes, ex-football player of St Anthony SC Colva was felicitated for his yeoman service to the village club. Antonio Leo Fernandes, Sarpanch of Colva, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Jose Camilo Silva, Mathias Rodrigues, other dignitaries and club officials.

Santosh assured of medal at Elite boxing nats

At the ongoing 2nd Elite Men's Boxing Nationals being held at Visakhapatnam, Goa's Santosh Harijan beat Mizoram's Zonuntluamga by unanimous decision to enter the semi-finals and assure himself of a medal.

PANAJI: With punch combinations of hooks, uppercut and straight punches he didn't give Zonuntluamga any chance to attack in the three rounds. He now faces Sikkim's Suraj Rai in the semi-finals. The nationals that commenced on October 23 will conclude on October 30.
