Cuncolim Union registered an easy 2-0 win over Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club to advance into the semi-finals of All Goa 4th Shooting Stars Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Margao Sports Club in association with Shooting Stars Sports Club, Colleavaddo- Assolna at Ambelim grounds on Saturday. Cuncolim Union led 1-0 at the breather.
Cuncolim Union dominated the game right from the word go and never allowed their opponents to strike rhythm and called the shots against the Areal Citadel.
Cuncolim Union's breakthrough came in the 8th minute when Rosario Carvalho floated the flag-kick inside the rival penalty box and veteran defender Krishna Shirodkar unleashed a volley that beat the Areal goalkeeper hands down. With one-goal cushion, Cuncolim Union intensified their attacks and had a couple of scoring opportunities to inflate their tally but Daulat Dessai was the worst offender as he alone muffed two sitters.
At the other end, Areal lacked the conviction in their build-ups and never really threatened the Cuncolim Union goal.
Crossing over, Areal tried to come back into the game and made a couple of concentrated efforts but failed to get past the rival rearguard.
Areal had a golden chance to neutralize the lead but Bersel Viegas shot wide, much to the disbelief of Areal supporters.
Cuncolim Union struck their second goal late in the second half when Sampath Kenny bulged the net off a through pass from Adney Fernandes.
