Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda beat St Anthony's Sports Club, Colva 4-3 to emerge champions of All Goa Rachol Overseas Cup inter village football tournament organized by Raitura Sports Club, Ilha de Rachol at Panchayat grounds, Raia on Sunday.
In an hotly contested match, both the teams played with attacking intent, as a result there were many thirlls at either end. Don Bosco Oratory's breakthough came in the very 3rd minute when Minguel Baretto bulged the net. Spurred by the lead, Don Bosco Oratory upped the ante and in the 16th minute , Danny Dias increased their tally. Nicolau Borges put the issue beyond doubt wherein he punished the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish. Down by 0-3, St Anthony's galvanished their attacks in search of goals and had a chance to reduce the deficit when Nelson Gomes fumbled at crucial moments.
St Anthony's put up a better perforamnce after change of ends as they repeatedly raided the rival defence and Nelson Gomes struck twice finding the net in the 56th and 60th minute to put his team on equal terms. Joston Pereira neutralized the lead. With time running out, Don Bosco Oratory made a last ditch effort and Clifton Baretto struck the match winner to guide his team to victory.
Don Bosco Oratory took home Rs 50,000 along with the winners trophy while St Anthony's Sports Club were richer by Rs 30,000 and a trophy.
Fr Eremito Rebello, parish priest of Our Lady Snows church,Rachol was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in presence of
Anthony Pango, GFA Executive member, Savio Messias, former GFA Secretary, Savio Medeira, AFC Instructtor and former national coach,Luso C Quadros,Sarpanch VP Raia. President, Querbino Gomes welcomed. Flenny Oliveira and Wilfred Gomes introduced the players to the guests. Alfred Vaz proposed the vote of thanks.
Individual Prizes: Best half of the final: Nelson Gomes (St Anthony's SC,Colva); Best defender of the final: Niclau Borges (Don Bosco); Best goalkeeper of the final: Jomiro ( St Anthony's SC, Colva).
