Dean D'Gama, Executive Member of Goa Basketball Association (GBA) and Treasurer of Sonics Basketball Club, has successfully obtained his FIBA Statistics Licence, becoming the first from Goa to achive these honours.
Dean has been closely involved in kick-starting and supporting several tournaments through Sonics Basketball Club, including the Sonics All Goa Under-17 League, KJS Battle of the Ballers and the Women’s 3BL League, all of which have emerged over the past four years as important platforms for grassroots participation and competitive basketball in Goa, while also attracting outstation players.
The two-day workshop held earlier in August, organised with the approval of the FIBA Regional Office by the Basketball Federation of India (BFI), included FIBA Learning Centre modules and examinations. A basketball statistician plays a vital role in recording real-time game data such as points, rebounds, assists, fouls and turnovers, while generating official box scores and performance analytics that support tactical decisions, scouting and player development, besides providing accurate records for broadcasters, media and fans.
Goa Basketball Association congratulated Dean on the achievement. “Dean has been actively involved in promoting grassroots basketball through various tournaments, and this FIBA qualification is another important achievement. His knowledge of statistics will be valuable for players, coaches and the growth of basketball in Goa,” stated Parind Nachinolkar, Secretary, GBA.
