Dempo SC came from behind to register a 2-1 win over Air India in the DSK Cup football tournament organised by DSK Shivajians in Pune, Maharashtra on Saturday.
All three goals were scored in the second. Trailing to a strike by Mashoor early in the second half, the Golden Eagles equalised through Germanpreeth Singh. The latter then set up Beevan D’Mello for the match winner late in the second half.
Down by a goal, the Mauricio Afonso coached team showed excellent quality and good fitness levels to totally dominate and score two goals in quick succession through Germanpreet and Beevan.
Speaking on the team’s performance against the Mumbai-based team, Afonso praised the squad's fighting spirit. “A win is always good but the boys had to work hard after being a goal down. They played quality football,” said the Dempo coach. “Now we concentrate on our next match and we'll look to get better,” he said
The win takes Dempo top of the Group B with three points. Air India are in the second position with three points in two games after the Airmen got the better of LFC-DSK 1-0 on Friday. Dempo next play LFC-DSK Academy, who are yet to open their account, on October 27.
