Speaking to The Goan, Kavlekar stated, “We have the mandate of the people, but the BJP formed the government through the backdoor entry. People haven’t liked that. We will take advantage of this massive support and improve our numbers in the upcoming bypolls i.e. 16 to 18. We are ready to face the electorate as a united front.”
Meanwhile, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee convened its first executive committee meet after the elections on Thursday. The meeting was interactive in nature and was attended by members of the Pradesh Congress Committee, elected Congress MLAs as well as the unsuccessful candidates. Those present expressed their views on the overall performance of the party.
A few of those who attended the meet, informed that the performance of the party at the recent Assembly polls was appreciated by one and all. However, the gathering wished to know what held the party back from forming the government despite being the single largest party.
In his opening remarks at the executive committee meet, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Luizinho Faleiro narrated the events which happened directly after the counting. Faleiro laid out the chronology before the members
for scrutiny.
Speaking to the media after the meet, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat sought to comment on the status of the Regional Plan 2021. The new Minister for Town and Country Planning, Vijai Sardesai recently stated that it is impractical to expect the TCP to rectify and implement RP 21 by December 2017, as promised in the budget speech.
Kamat explained that the RP21 stands notified. “My government completed the process of formulation and notification of the Regional Plan 2021 and when I sought a reply on the status of the regional plan from the then Town and Country Planning Minister Francis D’Souza, I was informed that the RP21 stands notified,” the former chief minister stated.
