Cuncolim Union beat Varca Sports Club 3-0 to enter the quarter-finals of All Goa Bernardo Furtado memorial inter village football tournament organized by Navelim Villagers Union at Rosary ground, Navelim on Saturday.
All the goals came in the first half. Cuncolim took the lead in the 12th minute when Clifton Fernandes scored off a flag kick taken by Daulat Dessai. Daulat doubled the lead when he beat the rival goalkeeper with a 25-yard scorcher. The two goals deflated Varca and they failed to put up any resistance and they conceded for a third time when Leo Miranda put the ball in his own net in the 28th minute as the defender tried to clear the ball in the danger area.
Post resumption, Cuncolim continued to dictate terms and enjoyed greater ball possession but focused more on defending their three-goal lead. After occasional raids on the subdued Varca citadel, Cuncolim finally settled for a 3-0 win.
