Excited and grateful to be national team head coach: Marquez

Coach Manolo Marquez said he is excited and grateful to be appointed as the head coach of the Indian men’s football team. “It has been a long-time dream for me, and I thank the AIFF for their confidence in me.”

Manolo emphasises the importance of professionalism and giving 100 per cent effort. However, results can’t always be guaranteed.

“Top Indian football players are comfortable with good salaries in ISL and staying in India. Playing abroad could help improve their level of play. India needs to focus on building and improving the team. The goal is to find the right group of players and improve game by game, rather than focusing solely on rankings,” he said.

“Short-term goals include developing a consistent playing style from junior to senior teams. Long-term goals involve hard work, positive mindset, and collective effort to improve Indian football.”

FC Goa finished third in the ISL, but Marquez feels they missed a chance to win the ISL Shield due to injuries and inconsistency. He also thinks he could have done better as a coach.
