FIFA World Cup: Portugal Fans Qatar mark 100 days’ countdown

Portuguese food, face painting and music were in the spotlight at the FIFA World Cup 100 days’ countdown organised by Portugal Fans Qatar (PFQ) at Jazz Café recently.
With Portuguese music ranging from Fado to Rap playing in the background, the fans got a chance to take part in several raffle draws and contests.
Fans got to sample some Portuguese snacks at the venue besides some cakes made by local caterers who are specialising in Portuguese food, and who trace their origins to Portugal and Goa.
A cake was also cut during the celebrations while fans got a chance to sample some of the popular Portuguese snacks prepared by Jazz Café, Radisson Blu and Santa Nata London.
Jazz Café’s Jassim M Al Theyab, who cut the cake which was specially made for the occasion, was delighted to be part of the celebration.
“I'm happy and delighted to be part of the celebration organised by Portugal Fans Qatar and wish the organisation all the best ahead of the World Cup,” said Jassim.
He also wished the Portugal team all the best during the World Cup.
“I wish the Portugal team all the best and my wishes also go out to all the Portugal fans who are based in Qatar and who are coming to Qatar for the World Cup.”
The organisers also decorated the place with the colours of Portugal's national flag and flowers.
The children and women who attended the function got an opportunity to paint their faces with the colours of the Portugal flag and also of Qatar.
The Selacao fans group based in Qatar has over 1,500 registered members on various social media platforms and have held various activities and will hold many events ahead of the World Cup.
The PFQ group leaders consist of people hailing from Mali, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Uganda and India besides also people from different regions which were former Portuguese colonies. Thirty-two countries including hosts Qatar will compete in the month-long tournament to be played in eight stadiums.
The qualified country includes Qatar, Germany, Denmark, Brazil, France, Belgium, Croatia, Serbia, England, Switzerland, Netherlands, Argentina, Iran, South Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Ecuador, Uruguay, Canada, Ghana, Senegal, Portugal, Poland, Tunisia, Morocco, Cameroon, USA, Mexico, Wales, Australia, Costa Rica.
Portugal are placed in Group H along with Ghana, Uruguay and South Korea. The Selacao open their campaign with a match against Ghana on November 24, followed by a clash with Uruguay four days later and complete their league engagements against South Korea on December 2.
