Benaulim social worker Warren Alemao launched an initiative to empower children through a free self-defence summer camp in collaboration with esteemed martial artists and instructors, Alemao aims to equip participants with essential life skills and confidence to navigate challenging situations effectively.
The self-defence camp, featuring Yongmudo, a modern hybrid Korean martial art incorporating techniques from taekwondo, hapkido, judo, ssireum, boxing, and wrestling, will run from May 1 to 31. The sessions will be held daily from 5 pm to 6 pm at the Varca Sports Club ground in Varca.
Boys and girls aged 6 to 17, residing in villages including Colva, Seraulim, Benaulim, Varca, Orlim, Carmona, and Cavelossim, are invited to participate.
The participants will receive uniforms and refreshments, ensuring a comfortable and energising experience throughout the camp. Led by renowned martial artists, the program aims not only to teach self-defence techniques but also to instill confidence, promote physical fitness, and foster empowerment among children.

The coaching staff boasts a lineup of accomplished martial artists, including Walter Fernandes, a National MMA Champion in the 70-75 kg weight category and participant in the 37th National Games in Martial Arts. Vilton D'Cruz, a bronze medalist in Pencak Silat at the 37th National Games Goa and a National Gold medalist in Martial Arts (50-55 kg weight), brings his expertise to the camp.
Anslet Sebastian, a bronze medalist in Pencak Silat at the 37th National Games Goa, a silver medalist in Kickboxing in 2024, and a Judo State Champion at Goa University, enriches the coaching team. Lastly, Ryan Fernandes, a bronze medalist in Pencak Silat at the 37th National Games Goa, adds his skill and experience to the program.
"Our self-defence summer camp goes beyond physical training; it's about empowering our youth to navigate the world with confidence and resilience," Warren Alemao emphasised.
