GCQ’s Michel feted for representing India in football

Michel Castanha of Govt College of Arts Science & Commerce Quepem represented India at the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) Asian Cup qualifiers 2018 held in North Korea from April 3 to 11, 2017.

She was the only Goan footballer selected for the Indian team and the first women from Govt College Quepem (GCQ) to represent team India at the International competition in football. Presently she is preparing to answer her third year Bachelor of Arts exams. She has been focusing on her game right from her first year at GCQ so much so that she was selected for the Asian Games, SAFF & South Asian Games camp held at Mumbai, Pataila  and Shillong. But this time she made it to the Indian team only through her hard work and determination.Michel Castanha was felicitated at the hand of Principal/Director of Higher Education, Bhasker Nayak in his Chamber at GCQ. Joaquim, father of Michel was also felicitated on the occasion.  
“We at GCQ are proud of her and the Principal, staff and students congratulate her for finally making it to Indian team and wish her good luck for her  future endeavours,” said a college statement.

MARGAO  Goa coach Severino Fernandes is keen on adopting a cautious approach ahead of their 51st Junior Under 19 National Football Championships for Dr B C Roy Trophy (Tier 1) campaign in Bilaspur, Chattisgarh from April 26 to May 5.
