Tarun Bharat will take on The Goan while defending champions Goa Doot will clash with Herald in the semi-finals of inter-media Vijay Gad memorial cricket tournament on Thursday at SAG ground, Campal. This tournament is organised annually by Sports Journalists Association of Goa (SJAG).
On Wednesday, Goa Doot beat Prudent by 9 wickets in a high-scoring encounter. Put into bat, Prudent posted a challenging total of 90/5 in their allotted 10 overs. Sachin Surlikar was the top-scorer with 31 runs off 24 balls, which included one sixer and five fours. Saish Kerkar and Pranit Naik scored 15 runs each. Goa Doot’s Santosh Kubal picked up three wickets for 19 runs off his two overs.
In reply, Goa Doot got off to a good start with openers Shailesh Barve and Paresh Arolkar putting on a partnership of 37 runs. Paresh scored 22 runs off 10 balls with the help of two sixers and one boundary, before he was out caught by Saish at long-on, off the bowling Lakshraj Shetye. That was the only success for Prudent bowling department as Shailesh and one-down batsman Amar Pawar steered their team home in 7.5 overs without further setback. Shailesh remained unbeaten on 25 runs while Amar was 24 not out off 14 balls that consisted four hits to the fence. Amar was named man of the match, presented by SJAG joint-secretary Sachin Korde.
Earlier today, last year’s runners-up Tarun Bharat crushed Pudhari by 10 wickets to enter the semi-finals. Chasing 34 to win, Tarun Bharat reached the victory target in 3.5 overs without losing any wicket. Sameer Naik remained unbeaten on 12. He was named man of the match.
