MARGAO: Goans Hockey Association signed off their campaign at the 16th Hockey India Junior Men's National Championship on a winning note, defeating Hockey Assam 4-2 in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Friday.
Goa produced an impressive attacking display, with Deekshit HH, Vasant BK, Samarth Nayaka and Satyam Kumar Pandit scoring a goal each to secure the victory.
Despite the encouraging result, Goa narrowly missed out on qualification to Division B. However, Goans Hockey Association president Abhay Bhamaikar praised the team's overall performance and consistency throughout the season.
"The team played well, but unfortunately we could not qualify for Division B. However, I am happy with the way our players performed. This year we have remained unbeaten in all three national tournaments. Out of the eight matches we played, we won seven and drew one," Bhamaikar said.
"We are hopeful that the Goans Hockey junior women's team will also perform well at the 16th Hockey India Junior Women's National Championship," he added.
