Gabriel Fernandes, the 27 year old winger for Mumbai City FC showed good endurance as well as displayed some good speed in today’s match against FC Goa at the at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Mumbai City FC went on to record an impressive second successive win.
“Today is was extra special for me as I was playing against my former team, but I was focused and all I wanted was to help the team get two consecutive wins and climb the league table. Overall I am really happy we won and I contributed to my team’s victory,” said Gabriel during a post-match chat.
Gabriel hails from the football loving state of Goa but for today, he is happy although his hometown is sad and disheartened over the win of the team he is juggling for. He has made five appearances till date in ISL2 and continues getting better with every passing match he plays.
In the very 2nd minute this lad made the first foul of the day as he tried to muscle his way past the Gaur, Narayan Das on the right flank. His push looked to be a little too strong and the referee awarded a free kick to the visitor team deep in their own half. “Basically I think we kept FC Goa defense on their toes,” told Gabriel.
He won the ISL emerging player of the match and has a long way to go in terms of achievements. He has not only made a mark for himself in Goa but also the Mumbaikars are proud of him.
When asked whether he is sad that his home team lost and filled with mixed emotions. He hurriedly replied “I don’t think about the last season I am now playing for Mumbai City FC and have to give my everything for the team that I play for and keep my fans happy at the end of the day.”
