Goan Varta Live defeated Gomantak to emerge winner at the 9th All Goa Inter-Media Tennis Ball Cricket tournament organised by Sports Journalists Association of Goa in collaboration with GTBC and SAG at Sag Ground, Campal on Tuesday. The winners and runners were awarded trophies and cash prizes sponsored by Rian Rohan Harmalkar.
Gomantak after electing to bat scored 80 runs in the allotted 6 overs with Santosh Kubal 34 runs, Kedar scoring 13 runs. For Goan Varta Live, Laxman took 2 while Chitra and Krishna bagged one wicket each.
In reply, Goan Varta Live with the help of blistering half century by Laxman (51 runs) achieved
the target in just 3.5 overs losing one wicket. Gangaram contributed with 12 runs for the winning team. Navhind Times, Goan Varta, Doordarshan and Rest of Electronic Media were other participating teams.
Other prizes - Discipline team prize was given to daily Pudhari team. Chitra Kotkeni of Goan Varta Live was adjudged player of the tournament. Best Batsman Kedar (Gomantak), bowler Sushant Gawas (Gomantak), Man of the final - Laxman (Goan Varta Live).
Only woman player Sweta Naik Bhonsle was felicitated on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Social worker Amit Harmalkar was the chief guest and Naresh Parsekar was the guest of honour for the prize distribution function.
