Defending Junior Boys champions Our Lady of Perpetual Succour (OLPS) High School continued their good run with an impressive 2-0 victory over Regina Mundi High School, Vasco in the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament at Fr Agnel ground, Verna on Tuesday.
Player of the match Vasim Inamdar powered OLPS' charge, finding the net once in each half (39th and 55th minutes). Coach Leroy Menezes was delighted with his team's display in the tournament and is hoping for an encore. "We were the city champions last year and are confident of going all the way this year too," he said.
Shenoy Fernandes was the hero for Father Agnel High School, Pilar with a double strike (15th and 50th minutes) as they upstaged Father Agnel Multipurpose High School, Verna 2-0 at the latter's ground. In other Junior Boys league games, Suman Murmu's 23rd minute goal was enough for St Joseph, Calungute to edge out St Thomas, Majorda 1-0 at Ganeshpuri Sports Complex, Mapusa while Progress High School, Sanquelim and Mae Dos Pobres High School marched ahead with convincing
victories.
Malik Mulla, Brijesh Kankonkar, Durgesh Mandrekar and Sunil Prakash (three goals each) were the top scorers as Shri Shantadurga Higher Secondary School, Bucholim thrashed Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bambolim 16-1 in a Senior Boys league match at Ganeshpuri. Saeesh Halarnkar stood out for MES College of Arts and Commerce as his 51st-minute goal helped them get past KK Birla Institute of Technology & Science
1-0 at Verna.
