IM Nitish Belurkar of Tiswadi Taluka and Geno Pharmaceutical brand ambassador won the 1st Unity All India Open Fide Rating Chess Tournament 2023 conducted by Unity Club in association with Salcete Taluka Chess Association held at Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium, Navelim.
Nitish drew with IM Sammed Jaykumar Shete in the last, 9th round. He won the first prize of Rs 30,000 and a trophy. IM Ameya Audi of Salcete Taluka beat strong contender Arnav Khedekar on the black side to take the second position and a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and a trophy. The third place was bagged by chess prodigy, 12-year-old Ethan Vaz of Salcete, who managed to get the better of FM Ritviz Parab (Salcete) to win a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
On the fourth board, Niraj Saripally (Salcete) comfortably defeated Asmita Avchit Ray(Mormugoa) to take the fourth position. The fifth place was taken by Sammed Shete (Maharastra) while FM Saurav Khedekar got the sixth place. Vivaan Ballikar got the better of Anish Naik to stand seventh with 7 ½ points. The eighth position went to Mandar Lad, who beat WCM Shreyana Mallya. Sairaj Verenkar beat Edrick Vaz to bag the ninth place and the tenth place went to Parth Salvi.
