The controversial deal transferring Jamshedpur FC’s Indian Super League license to Churchill Brothers has landed before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland.
Salcete-based Goan football fan Derick Dias is the appellant who has filed the urgent plea under Article R37 of the CAS Code, seeking provisional measures to halt the deal.
Dias' appeal argues that the Rs 100 share purchase agreement between Tata Steel’s Jamshedpur Football & Sporting Pvt. Ltd. and Churchill Brothers undermines sporting merit and licensing integrity.
Dias contends that allowing Churchill Brothers to enter the ISL through a corporate takeover, bypassing promotion‑relegation criteria, sets a dangerous precedent under FIFA and AFC rules.
He warns of “irreparable harm” to competitive integrity if the transfer is ratified by the All India Football Federation ahead of the upcoming season.
The appeal asks CAS to freeze AIFF’s approval, restrain Churchill Brothers from operationalising the takeover, and preserve the league’s status quo until full adjudication.
