Unbeaten century by Kashyap Bakhale (101 not out) who was equally supported by Snehal Kauthankar (78 not out) helped Goa reach 224/3 against Nagaland in their second innings at the end of third day’s of play of the final of Ranji Trophy Plate Group at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima on Saturday.
Goa, thus lead Nagaland by 284 runs, with two days of play still remaining.
Kashyap and Snehal made a mockery of Nagaland’s bowling attack. Together, they put on an unbeaten 182-runs partnership for the fourth wicket to take Goa in a commanding position.
Bakhale hit his second first-class hundred to remain unbeaten on 101 off 213 balls. He hit 8 boundaries. Kauthankar, on the other hand, scored his 14th first-class half-century to remain unbeaten on 78 off 174 balls that included 4 fours.
Their partnership proved to be very crucial for Goa after the visitors lost their first three wickets quickly. Suyash Prabhudessai (7), Krishnamurthy Siddharth (0) and Rohan Kadam (16) fell cheaply. At 42/3, Goa were in a deep trouble, before Bakhale and Kauthankar rescued Goa’s innings.
For Nagaland, Nagaho Chishi (2/29) claimed two wickets i.e. of Suyash Prabhudessai and Krishnamurthy Siddharth while Jagadeesha Suchith (1/50) dismissed Rohan Kadam.
Earlier in the day, Nagaland added just 11 runs off 4.5 overs to their overnight score to be bundled out for 216.
Heramb Parab claimed both the Nagaland wickets that fell today to record his best-ever bowling performance (5/30) in first-class cricket.
Goa took a vital 60-run first innings lead. Nagaland skipper Rongsen Jonathan scored a brilliant 86 in the first innings to lead their team’s fight-back.
