King’s HS-Margao beat Progress HS-Sanquelim by eight wickets in the finals to win the President’s Cup U-16 girls cricket tournament at MCC ground, here. Progress won the toss and elected to bat. They posted a competitive total of 109/2 in their allotted 20 overs.
Sejal Satardekar remained unbeaten on 37. Gautami Naik (15) and Vaishnavi Kerkar (10) also made important contributions. For King’s, Anushree Sunkerkar and Ibtisam Shaikh picked up a wicket each.
King’s reached the victory target 110/2 in 17.5 overs, losing two wickets. Ibtisam Shaikh played a fantastic unbeaten knock of 55 runs. Anita Choudhary with 14 runs and Laxmi Kudchudkar with 12 runs, also made valuable contributions. For Progress, Nomaa Sancoalkar claimed both wickets to fall.
Following individual prizes were awarded: Best bowler of the tournament: Nomaa Sancoalkar (Progress HS); Best batter: Anita Choudhary (King’s HS), Player-of-the series: Ibtisam Shaikh (King’s HS), Player-of-the match: Sejal Satardekar (Progress HS).
