The third round of the Goa Premier Division League 2025-26, organised by the Goa Cricket Association, commenced on Tuesday. All three matches witnessed an engaging contest between bat and ball. While some teams posted solid totals to take the advantage, a few matches have reached an exciting stage. The second day's play is expected to be decisive.
Salgaocar's dominant performance
At the NAPEX ground in Sankhali, Salgaocar Cricket Club, taking first strike against Panjim Gymkhana, laid a strong foundation. Azaan Thota (53) provided early momentum with an aggressive knock. Later, Shaantanu Nevagi and captain Yash Kasvankar stitched a crucial partnership for the third wicket to steady the innings. Nevagi played a composed knock of 110 runs, while Kasvankar remained unbeaten on 100 to put the team in a commanding position. After Ayush Verlekar (16) was dismissed, Yogesh Kauthankar (19 not out) supported Kasvankar. Salgaocar piled up 318 for 4 in 88 overs. Vijesh Prabhudesai took two wickets for Panjim Gymkhana, while Amit Yadav and Mohit Redkar claimed one each.
Chowgule Sports Club is in a strong position
At the GCA Academy ground in Porvorim, the match between Chowgule Sports Club and Dempo Cricket Club was shaped by disciplined bowling. Chowgule scored 226 in the first innings. After early setbacks, Shivendra Bhujbal's impressive 82 rescued the innings, with Madhur contributing 52.
In reply, Dempo struggled against Chowgule's bowlers and were restricted to 109. Darshan Misal starred with five wickets, while Shubham Desai picked up four. Chowgule were 16 for 3 in 7 overs in their second innings. They hold a lead of 133 runs and are in control of the match.
MCC's fighting total; Geno starts cautiously
At the GCA ground in Sanguem, Margao Cricket Club scored 238 in the first innings. Though the top order faltered, Aryan Narvekar steadied the innings with a patient 84. Chigurupati Venkata (41) and Anuj Yadav (24) also contributed.
For Geno Sports Club, Pundalik Naik, Kaushal Hattangadi, and Samarth Rane claimed key wickets. In reply, Geno made a cautious start, reaching 28 without loss in 4 overs. Veer Yadav (18 not out) and Manthan Khutkar (10 not out) remained unbeaten. Geno is still trailing by 210 runs but has begun positively.
