More Argentine stars could follow Messi out: Aguero

Aguero did not say whether he would be one of the players to call time on his Argentina career. The futures of Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano, 32, and perhaps attacker Gonzalo Higuain could be in doubt after the defeat.

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has warned more Argentina players could follow Lionel Messi into international retirement after the Barcelona superstar's shock exit.

"It's likely that Messi won't be the only one to go into international retirement," said Aguero.

"It's our toughest defeat to take," he added.

"We were all very devastated in the dressing room, particularly Leo,I'd never seen him in such a state," Aguero said.

Aguero did not say whether he would be one of the players to call time on his Argentina career.
