Niraj Saripalli of Salcete Taluka Chess Association won the top prize at Late Premlata Omprakash Agarwal All Goa Open Rapid FIDE Rating Chess Tournament held at BPS Sports Club, Margao.
Niraj beat Tanvi Vassudev Hadkonkar to win the first prize of Rs 10,000 and a trophy in the tournament organised by BPS Sports Club and Salcete Taluka Chess Association.Gunjal Chopdekar beat Sairaj Vernekar to bag the second prize of Rs 7,000 and a trophy. Reuben Colaco beat Suhas Asnodkar to bag the third prize. Tanvi Hadkonkar stood fourth while Wilson Cruz had to be content with a fifth place finish after drawing his last round.
The total prize pool was Rs 50,000 and trophies were awarded to all the winners. Other prize winners are: Sairaj Vernekar (6th place), Sachin Gaude (7th), Devesh Anand Naik (8th), Mandar Pradip Lad (9th) and Ethen Vaz (10th). In the age group category, Erwin Albuquerque won the U-7 boys title while Poorvi Naik won in U-7 girls. Hawal Shreyas won U-9 boys title and Jennica Sequeira won the U-9 girls title. In U-11 category, Ali Amanat was the boys champion while Asmita Ray won the girls title. Yash Manoj Upadhye won U-13 boys title while Sanvi Naik Gaonkar won the U-13 girls title. Ishan Pagi won U-15 boys crown while Sarah Gayle Fernandes won the U-15 girls title.
Salcete Taluka prizes: Sairaj Narvenkar won U-7 boys title while Diya Digamber Sawal won in U-7 girls. Atharva Sawal won the U-9 boys title while Saeeja Gunesh Desai won the U-9 girls trophy. Edrick Vaz won U-11 boys title while Vardha Desai won the U-11 girls prize. Jugan Sales Rodrigues won U-13 boys title while Alaya D’Cruz won in the U-13 girls. Desai Purush Rajkaran won U-15 boys title while Swetha Sahakari won the U-15 girls crown. Veteran (above 50) prize was bagged by Suhas Asnodkar and Malviya Mukesh Kumar was the top unrated player. Pradyna Kakodkar was the Best woman player (above 15 years).
In total, 233 players from all over Goa participated in the tournament, out of which 91 were rated players.
