Jayesh Velip starred as Pax of Nagoa humbled Carmona Sports Club 4-0 in the GFA Salcete Zone Third Division League playoff at Nagoa Sports Complex on Thursday.
Both teams got off to a slow start in the fixture. Neither created any big chances in the first 15 minutes. But Pax of Nagoa have never needed to be in control of the game to score goals, and they showed that once again. Shelton Fernandes put them in front in the 39th minute.
Pax of Nagoa were happy to sit back, get into a compact shape, and wait for the half-time whistle. The half ended with the Nagoa team leading 1-0. Pax of Nagoa enjoyed most of the possession but weren’t able to turn that into goals. Jayesh Velip scored a brace, netting in the 47th and 87th minute. Viton Fernandes scored the fourth in the 88th minute.
U-14 inter-school football tourney at Seraulim
United Sports Club of Seraulim in collaboration with the Base Goa will organise an All Goa Under-14 Inter School Football Tournament for boys and girls in memory of late Sir Jawaharlal Da Costa at The Base Goa in Seraulim from January 13 to 22.
Sixteen school teams in the boys' category -- Loyola HS Margao, Vidya Vikas HS Margao, Fr Agnel Ashram Verna, St Pius Orlim, Perpetual Succor Navelim, Manovikas HS Margao, St Francis Xavier HS Macazana, St Mary's HS Varca, Holy Cross Cavelossim, Infant Jesus Colva, St Thomas Cansaulim, St Aloysious Benaulim, St Jude Betalbatim, St Anthony Majorda, Mount Mary Chinchinim and Mae Dos Pobres Nuvem will participate.
In the girls' category, eight school teams have confirmed their participation with Vidya Vikas HS Margao, Perpetual Succor Navelim, Manovikas HS Margao, Infant Jesus Colva, St Jude Betalbatim, St Anthony Majorda, Presentation Convent HS Margao and Fatima Convent HS Margao in the fray. The finals will be held on January 22 on the occasion of the feast of St Sebastian. There will be a cultural show before the finals.
