The Hero Indian Super League's concluding match between Delhi Dynamos and FC Goa may have been played miles away at Nehru Stadium in New Delhi last Sunday,but the reverberations of Gaurs' victory was felt at Pedda, in Ambelim Village with locals celebrating their favourite son Romeo Fernandes' stupendous brace for which he won the man of the match award.
The village erupted in support of their favourite son by bursting fire crackers and playing Forca Goa music to make it a memorable Sunday night.
Last year's sensation Romeo Fernandes who was battling indifferent form this year, rediscovered his lost form and made Delhi pay with a fine brace.
It was a dream come true for Romeo who won the best player award in the Federation Cup this year. Fans in his native village were jubilant as he made every one in Ambelim proud with his match-winning performance. "We wish him all the success in the semi-final," a joyous Rafael Cardozo said.
Angle D'Silva a student of Maria Bambina Convent High School, Cuncolim congratulated Romeo saying: "It always happens when you have Romeo around. Hats off to him for a great victory and a great win." Romeo received special mention from Joe Menny Furtado, president of Union of Chinchinim Villagers. "Romeo Fernandes struck form at the right time and I hope he continues to play in the same way even in the semis against Delhi," said Joe.
Soccer buffs in Salcete hailed Romeo's stupendous performance and are eagerly waiting to see him play in the semi-finals and also holding the key to success for his team.
