A four-goal blitz by substitute striker Lalkhawpuimawia helped Churchill Brothers drub a winless Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem 6-1 in the Goa Professional League at Nagoa Panchayat Sports Complex on Thursday. The teams were tied 1-1 at the breather.
Despite dominating possession in the early stages, Churchill were at the receiving end as their forwards were erratic after entering the rival penalty box. They had a couple of scoring chances but their forwards were wayward. At the other end, Guardian Angel had scoring chances but their forwards misfired from a handshaking distance.
Joebern Cardozo broke the deadlock at the stroke of the lemon break with a neat finish. At the other end, Guardian Angel equalised in jury time (45+1') when Joywin Costa punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
The second half got off to a bright start with end-to-end football on display. The Red Machines had a couple of chances that were dealt with by the rival defenders. In the 64th minute, Lalkhawpuimawia regained the lead. A minute later, Lalkhawpuimawia found the target again. Problems piled up for Guardian Angel as Lalkhawpuimawia scored his hat-trick with a powerful shot. George D'Souza added his name to the scorers' list in the 86th minute. Lalkhawpuimawia fired the sixth goal in the injury time (90+3').
