Salgaocar FC secured a comfortable 6-1 win over cellar team Guardian Angel SC, Curchorem in the Goa Professional League at Nagoa Panchayat Sports Complex on Saturday. Substitute Fhezer Gomes scored a hat-trick in the big win.
Guardian Angel started well but Jowin Costa and Jesloy Moniz missed chances. Salgaocar settled down and scored their first goal in the 25th minute as Mark Carvalho tapped home a flag kick taken by midfielder Samuel Costa. Nine minutes later, Samuel floated another flag kick into the rival penalty box and U-20 midfielder Beckham Dias smashed it in, 2-0.
In the second half, Salgaocar continued their dominance as Fhezer came off the bench to torment the rival defence and added his name to the scoresheet with a solo goal via Samuel, 3-0. In the 55th minute, Mark scored his second from outside the box with a powerful shot into the top-right corner off a cross from Samuel, 4-0.
Guardian Angel, yet to open their account in the league, scored a consolation goal through a spot kick from attacking midfielder Gilbert Olveira in the 63rd minute. In the 71st minute, Fhezer received the ball 30 yards out and made a driving run into the box before cutting it back across to beat Guardian Angel's Oswin Rodrigues, 5-1. In the 79th minute, the on-song Fhezer completed his hat-trick.
With this win, Salgaocar FC collected 10 points from five matches while Guardian Angel are yet to claim a point from 6 matches.
Churchill, Calangute Association play draw
In the other match, Churchill Brothers and Calangute Association played out a 1-1 draw at Duler Stadium, Mapusa. Nitish Harza put Calangute ahead while Aaron Barreto scored the equaliser. Both goals were scored in the second session.
