MARGAO

Real Kashmir edged past Kerala Blasters FC 1-0 in the AIFF Under-15 Youth League play-offs at Rosary ground, Navelim on Tuesday morning.

The teams started the match on a sedate note in the initial period of the game. Real Kashmir came close when Mohammed Inam found Adil Shabir inside the penalty box and the last named missed the mark narrowly. At the other end, Kerala Blasters captain Alen Walter picked the ball from Abisheik Suresh and the former blasted wide from close range. In the 32nd minute, Real Kashmir’s Adeel Tariq’s six-yard shot was well kept out by a rival defender. Real Kashmir again missed out when striker Shafayat Ahad shot wide.

Post resumption, Mohammed Arslan’s left-footed drive was thwarted by the rival defender before midfielder Mohammad Inam dangerously moved into the rival territory but goalkeeper averted the danger by plucking the ball from the aggressor’s feet in the 47th minute.   The lone goal of the match came in the 75th minute when substitute Sameer Gulzar’s shot was fisted away by goalkeeper Adithyan TV and the ball fell kindly for Mohammad Arslan, who slotted past the goalkeeper.

DSK Shivajians win

In the other match of the day, DSK Shivajians, Pune overcame Aizawl FC 1-0. Bawi Rou Sang stuck the match winner in the 39th minute.

The teams started the game on cautious note as the play was mostly restricted to the midfield during the first 15 minutes. Midway in the first half, Aizawl had a great chance to break the deadlock when Famkima leapt high to nod the ball in but his header hit the crossbar and Vanlal Fela could not convert with the rebound.

Aizawl again threatened in the 36th minute when Famika held the ball inside the penalty box before outwitting two defenders but the goalkeeper effected a superb save. The all important goal came in the 39th minute when Bawi Rou Sangh swung in a free kick past the rival goalkeeper.
