Goa will once again take centre stage in Indian motorsport as it hosts the 12th edition of the Rainforest Challenge (RFC) India from July 26 to August 1.
Supported by Goa Tourism and organised by Cougar Motorsport, RFC India is widely regarded as one of the country's premier off-road motorsport competitions. A total of 61 teams from across India will compete in three categories — 4X4 Extreme (25 teams), 4X4 Modified (16 teams) and 4X4 Stock (21 teams). The three-category format, introduced last year to encourage wider participation in the off-roading community, returns after a successful debut.
Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said the event aligns with Goa's efforts to diversify its tourism offerings beyond its traditional attractions.
"The Rainforest Challenge India reflects Goa's growing stature as a destination for adventure tourism and outdoor experiences that celebrate our unique natural landscapes. As we continue to diversify our tourism offerings, events like RFC India play an important role in attracting enthusiasts while encouraging responsible engagement with nature."
Launched in 2014 as the Indian chapter of Malaysia's Rainforest Challenge, RFC India has evolved into one of the country's leading off-road motorsport competitions, testing participants on driving and vehicle recovery skills, physical and mental endurance, and teamwork under demanding off-road conditions.
The 4X4 Extreme category will begin with vehicle scrutiny and the drivers' briefing on July 26 before competitors take on 26 Special Stages from July 27 to August 1. The 4X4 Modified and 4X4 Stock categories will contest 20 and 14 Special Stages, respectively, following their vehicle inspections.
The top Indian driver in the 4X4 Extreme category will earn a free automatic entry to the Rainforest Challenge Global Grand Finale in Malaysia later this year. Winners across all three categories will be declared on August 1 after the completion of the Special Stages.
