Salgaocar posed a constant threat to the Penha de Franca box with good through and long range balls to their strikers, who however were poor with their finishing. Both teams tried hard to get the breakthrough but the defence of both the teams stood strong as the first half ended 0-0.
The second half was all action and reaction with tackles coming from both ends. Salgaocar were awarded a free kick and Karan floated a cross into the rival box to find Sanson Pereira, who rose highest to the ball for a blistering header that beat the keeper who remained grounded.
Penha de Franca tired hard to pull the goal back but all their efforts went in vain. With this win, Salgoacar FC took their tally to 7 points from three matches while Penha de Franca have 6 points from same number of matches.
Panjim Footballers, Goa Police win
Panjim Footballers pipped Sesa FA 1-0 in a Round 3 clash of the GFA First Division League 2016-17 held at Don Bosco ground, Panaji on Sunday. The all-important goal came in the 77th minute through the boots of Swedden Rodrigues. Anil Chawan and Dylan Fernandes (20’ and 48’, both Sesa FA) and Alinton Cametion (85’ of Panjim Footballers) were cautioned.
In another game at Goa Velha, Goa Police SC won their third successive match with a convincing 3-1 result against Goa Velha SC. All the goals came in the second session of play. Gulrez Khan (54’), Shaikh Saliya (68’) and Milind Shinde (70’) scored for the Policemen while Michael Dias (83) netted for the Goa Velha side. Gulrez Khan (Goa Police SC) was cautioned in
the 60th minute.
