Goa and Delhi anticipate an intense contest as they clash in the quarter-finals of the 77th National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy at the Golden Jubilee Stadium in Yupia, Arunachal Pradesh, on Monday.
Goa's head coach, Charles Dias, expressed confidence in his team's readiness for the challenge posed by Delhi.
"We are proud to have reached the quarterfinals. Facing a strong team like Delhi, we remain confident in our abilities," said Dias. "We have players like Necio Fernandes, Mohammed Fayeez, Lloyd Cardozo, and Mohammed Ali. What matters most is our ability to create scoring opportunities," he added.
Recognizing the tough competition ahead, Dias emphasized the importance of focusing on their own strengths while acknowledging Delhi's capabilities.
"We are aware that all quarterfinal teams are equally strong. Playing against a home team like Delhi will be challenging, but we have analyzed their strengths and weaknesses. Our focus remains on our preparation for the match," said Dias.
Expressing excitement for the knockout stage in the championship, Dias highlighted the team's blend of youth and experience. "We are looking forward to a strong start in the knockouts. While reaching the semifinals is a positive achievement, our ultimate goal is to reach the final," he stated.
Acknowledging the tough schedule of matches, Dias emphasized the importance of maintaining fitness and focus. "Our players are ready and in good condition despite the demanding schedule. We must remain focused and minimize mistakes," said Dias. "While every player deserves a chance, our main objective is to showcase our hard work and determination. A victory is within our reach," he concluded.
