Six-year-old Rithin Sai of Coimbatore, the youngest among all the participants, totalling nearly 50 riders, including several current and ex-national champions, is all set to display his skills on the two-wheeler at the first Cheryl Sequeira Memorial Supercross Championship under the auspices of FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India) organised by SAG's recognised Sirvodem Racing Clube de Goa, Navelim on January 1 from 4 pm.
"Rithin is excited to display his skills, technique and endurance which are essential for success in supercross, which will give the spectators a feeling of their hearts in their mouths, as he has dazzled at three National events and 12 local championships earlier," explained former National Supercross and Motorcross champion Allan Sequeira, who alongwith another Goa's former National champion Javed Shaikh are burning their midnight oil in bringing the coveted event in Navelim which will be held near the Navelim Sewage Treatment Plant.
Supercross, which is gaining popularity in Goa, will be staged on an artificially designed, demanding dirt track which is 800 meters in length, consisting of double jumps, steep jumps, obstacles, one big and nine small table tops, whoops and berms for smooth turns which will test the skills of the riders, disclosed Allan at the track where work is going on at a breakneck speed.
"Since supercross is one of the biggest power sports event, drawing both daredevils and thrill-seeking spectators alike, we have designed a track with thrilling lay-outs and hope that never-before-seen stunts will keep the spectators on the edge of their seats," disclosed Allan who dashed from London just to organise the event.
"Supercross riders must be able to endure long periods of intense physical activity that requires a high level of endurance and stamina. The riders are required to perform a series of technical manoeuvres that require strength, balance, flexibility besides maintaning focus and concentration throughout the entire race," added Allan.
