MARGAO: Sporting Club Davorlim booked their place in the quarterfinals of the 5th Betalbatim Villagers Cup after defeating Curtorim Gymkhana 5-3 in a penalty shootout following a hard-fought 1-1 draw at the Panchayat Ground, Betalbatim, on Tuesday.
Sporting Club Davorlim took the lead in the 21st minute through Milton Colaco, who finished off a well-worked move to put his side ahead. Curtorim Gymkhana responded positively and restored parity in the 31st minute when Savio Peixoto found the back of the net, ensuring the teams went into the break level.
Both sides created chances after the interval but failed to find the decisive goal, taking the contest to a penalty shootout.
In the tie-breaker, Sporting Club Davorlim kept their composure from the spot to emerge 5-3 winners and secure a place in the last eight of the tournament.
Former India international Camilo Rebello presented the Man of the Match award to Milton Colaco.
