Exhibiting some clinical display of cricket, St John’s CA-Hyderabad lifted the Bhikoo Pai Angle memorial trophy by beating Vijaya Cricket Academy-Belgaum by a whopping 138 runs in the final at SAG ground, Fatorda on Thursday.
Maintaining their winning streak, the Hyderabadis were professional in their approach as they built up a formidable total of 259 for 5. They were 154 for 3 in 29 overs playing cautiously but they added 103 in the next 11 overs to finish at 259 for 5. Aman Rao (79) Dheeraj (83) and Mayank Gupta (40) batted well with Satchit B chipping in with a useful 26. Vicky, Myankraj P, Prithvi.R and Priyadarshan took one wicket each for Vijaya CA.
Chasing 260 to win, the Belgaum outfit received a jolt as their star batsman Atharv Dharmadhikari was out for 16. After his dismissal only Mayankraj Patil (30) could offer some resistance to the disciplined bowling by St John’s and were eventually bundled out for 121 in 37 overs. For Hyderabad, Abhiram and Sanchit took 2 wickets each while Sai Mani, Priyanshu, Mayank and Dheeraj took one wicket each.
Vijaya’s Atharva Dharmadhikari (man of the tournament), best batsman Dheeraj (St John’s) and best bowler Mayank Gupta (St John’s) bagged the respective individual prizes.
